During the 1000-Lb Sisters season finale, Tammy Slaton made a “shocking” confession to her medical team. While at a consultation for skin removal, she admitted that she has a vaping habit. The TLC star claimed it helped manage her anxiety, but it had become an addiction for her. Tammy even said she occasionally woke up in the middle of the night to vape before going back to sleep.
Naturally, a vaping habit would put her chances of skin removal in jeopardy. Nevertheless, Tammy felt she needed to come clean.
However, viewers weren’t quite believing the narrative TLC told here. Read on to get the scoop.
Was Tammy Slaton’s Vaping Habit Really A Surprise?
Before Tammy entered rehab for her food addiction, she was a regular party animal. Onscreen, fans saw her drinking and vaping with friends. Some assumed she gave up vaping in rehab, but it seems the habit continued.
So why did the production team paint it as a secret addiction?
“How is it possible that Tammy has a secret vaping problem?” a 1000-Lb Sisters viewer asked on Reddit. “How is someone who has people taking care of them all day, just went on a long trip where she was being carted around the entire time, can hide a serious vaping problem?”
“She can’t drive herself to the store to buy it. Is it something TLC added for some drama and suspense for next season? I don’t think Tammy is above hiding a problem like that (she had issues before with substances) I just wonder how is it logistically possible to hide that given her circumstances?” the OP added.
1000-Lb Sisters Didn’t Find The Scene Believable
Other Redditors agreed that it likely wasn’t possible for Tammy to completely hide her vaping habit. In fact, her family and the production team alike likely knew. However, it’s a miracle what can be done in the editing room.
Comments included:
- “Idk but I did notice that Amanda was doing the marathon with her vape. They never showed her hitting it though.”
- “Family knew, I think editing took out any evidence to create drama.”
- “She talked about it in previous episodes when she was still married to Caleb. So I really think it was just a matter of production trying to create interest really. Guaranteed nobody in her family was shocked.”
- “It’s not a secret, it’s been all over socials I think the show couldn’t not address it”
