Broadway’s Harry Potter And Stranger Things stand strong post-holiday.

Broadway box office was solid and clear-headed last week after the previous week’s lucrative holiday-fueled numbers, with receipts for the 31 productions settling at a solid $34,320,229. That’s a 34% drop from the week that contained New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

Attendance for the week ending January 11 was 272,911, down about 13% from the previous week. About 92% of all Broadway seats were filled, compared with 98% during the New Year’s week. Average ticket prices took a $40 drop from the holiday prices, to an average $126.76 last week.

Bug, the Tracy Letts play starring Carrie Coon and Namir Smallwood, opened January 8 to good notices, but two cancellations due to company illness and opening night comps saw grosses drop by $129,476 to $317,330.

Even without the holiday crowds, eight productions were sell-outs, with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child starring Tom Felton from the film franchise, topping the grosses list with $2,648,036. Hamilton was second at $2,182,545 and Wicked taking the third spot with $2,074,900. Other sell-outs were Just in Time ($1,456,348), Mamma Mia! ($1,777,550), Ragtime ($1,149,497), Stranger Things: The First Shadow ($1,661,666) and Wicked ($2,074,900).

Nearly every production saw receipts drop, with only Liberation, Marjorie Prime and Oedipus bucking the trend. Liberation, which closes February 1, showed signs that word-of-mouth could at long last be catching up to critical acclaim, with receipts up $214,311 to a production high of $639,035, and attendance at the James Earl Jones at 86% of capacity compared to 66% the previous week. (Next up at the James Earl Jones is The Fear of 13, announced today and coming in March).

Oedipus, starring Mark Strong and Lesley Manville, nearing its February 8 closing date, was up just more than $51,000 to $864,706. About 93% of seats at Studio 54 were filled.

Also filling more than 95% of seats were Chess ($1,671,690), Marjorie Prime ($382,918), Oh, Mary! ($981,394), The Lion King ($1,707,794) and The Outsiders ($1,055,397). At 90%+ were Aladdin ($1,071,071), Buena Vista Social Club ($949,976), Death Becomes Her ($1,067,958), Maybe Happy Ending ($1,053,552), The Book of Mormon ($866,879) and The Great Gatsby ($1,100,724).

Season to date, Broadway, in the 33nd week of the 2025-26 season, has grossed $1,233,962,457 up about 8% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 9,117,740 up 3%.
