Stella Parton has music in her blood. In fact, as the sister of Dolly Parton, it’s in the family business. Recently, she’s announced that she will be releasing new music for the first time in nearly a decade. She also shared the emotional motivation to share this music.
Stella Parton Made Her Musical Debut Alongside Dolly When She Was Seven
Stella is the younger sister of singer-songwriter Dolly Parton. She herself is also a country singer and songwriter, releasing her first album in the 1960s. She actually made her debut with her sister at the age of seven on a television program. Following this, she made her radio debut around two years later.
In the 1980s and early 1990s, Stella also became known for appearing in a number of Broadway touring musicals. These included Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She also wrote and staged several Dollywood shows during its opening season.
Recently, news has come out that Stella is releasing new music. This will be the first time in nearly a decade.
The new music, however, has been inspired by a few tragic moments over the past few years. This is Stella losing three of her brothers: David, Randy, and Floyd.
While speaking with People, Stella mused, “Growing up with so many siblings, we were very emotionally connected, and still are in a real emotional way. It’s a soul connection. So this whole thing was kind of like emotional paralysis for me in a strange sort of way. Grief has really been a writer’s block for me.”
Stella Discussed How Music Impacted Her Grieving Process Throughout Nostalgia
Stella also shared that she spent a lot of time looking out for her siblings, even viewing herself as a second mother to Floyd. Her last album came out months before his death in 2018, which she admitted caused her to lose inspiration.
The singer noted that losing a sibling causes a special kind of grief, especially when it comes to younger siblings. She shared, “Losing your parents is one thing… but that’s the natural progression of life. You accept and embrace that change from having parents to being an orphan. But you don’t accept that as easily with a sibling. Siblings are closer than anyone, really, because you’ve had them with you your whole life. I didn’t realize it would be such a painful experience.”
Stella hopes to honor Floyd with a cover of “Stand by Me” by Ben E. King. She shared, “It says everything that Floyd and I had said to one another and had been through together.”
Stella’s new album, Nostalgia, will be made up of covers. Reportedly, it will make its debut later this year.
