In the post-credits scene of Evil Dead Burn, Ellie Bixler from 2023’s Evil Dead Rise makes an unexpected return. The haunting character of a single mother was played to perfection by actress Alyssa Sutherland. It is revealed that Ellie’s ashes are kept at the same crematorium where Will’s funeral took place. A girl is seen reading the names of the urns and then stops right at the one marked Ellie. The lights begin to flicker, and Ellie suddenly appears in the mirror.
Many fans were left speechless and even excited by this post-credits scene. On Reddit, many expressed a desire to see a crossover between characters from the ongoing Evil Dead reboot series.
eddieswiss wrote, “I wonder what they’re trying to set up with the post-credits stuff.” G7Scanlines commented, “There was a lot of setup with the Circle, the Dagger, the Deadite intent to secure it over outright chaos and then Ellie. Lots of connections to earlier films. Feels very crossovery and only a matter of time before Mia, Beth and Alice come together.” Mia Allen and Beth Bixler were characters in 2013’s Evil Dead and 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, respectively. DevilCouldCry expressed his excitement over Ellie’s return while wondering what it could mean for the future. “I was stunned that they managed to keep that one top secret, because I had zero clue that they brought her back.”
It seems there’s a strong chance of what fans are speculating following Evil Dead Burn. Producer Robert Tapert recently revealed that the team wanted director Vaniček to establish a link between Evil Dead Burn and Evil Dead Rise.
Speaking to Forbes, Tapert said, “We said to Sébastien [Vaniček] that you have to connect back to Evil Dead Rise somehow.” Tapert added that he and producer Sam Raimi felt “the Evil Dead movies can’t just be a whole series of standalones because the audience wants to start connecting the dots.”
The next movie in the popular horror series will be Evil Dead Wrath, set to release on April 7, 2028.
