The Valley’s Jax Taylor Details Family’s History of Mental Illness

The Valley’s Jax Taylor Details Family’s History of Mental Illness

During Season 2 of The Valley, viewers learned Jax Taylor admitted to a cocaine addiction. The Jax’s Studio City owner checked himself into a 30-day rehab center where he aimed to get help. While there, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He also learned he had an anger problem. During the season, Jax claimed he only had rage outbursts with Brittany Cartwright when he was coming off a substance. Now we are learning more about Jax’s family history of mental health issues. Here’s what we know.

Jax Taylor’s claims his family enabled his behavior

During his June 12 episode of the In The Mind Of Jax Taylor podcast, he opened up about his childhood and revealed he thinks his upbringing had a lot to do with his outbursts. Jax’s sister, Jenny Cauchi, phoned in to also broach the subject with her brother. Jax started off by saying, “This is a very delicate subject, because I do think there is a reason for my rage and anger.” The Valley star noted, “I think there is a person in our lives that we can agree on that maybe contributed to some of this.” Jenny was tuned in as she added, “I think we have a history of mental illness in our family, yes, and that we probably have always had it in us, and we just didn’t know how to work through it and come out on the right side.”

Jax believes his “exaggeration of the truth” comes from one particular family member. His sister agreed, saying, “100 percent. You were never held accountable. Excuses were made for you. I don’t know why. I always thought because you were the first-born grandchild of the son or whatever.” She added, “Even when you were older and you were in the shows and you’re getting in trouble, there was still somebody who always bailed you out. Mom has gotten you out of trouble. I’ve gotten you out of trouble. I’ve lied for you. We’ve enabled it.”

Jax Taylor’s sister explains family history

Jax continued, “But why am I so more f*cked up than you? We came from the same cloth, right? So why is my brain wired the way it is, and why is your brain wired the way it is?” Jenny responded, “Our parents, you know, obviously had something to do with the way we were brought up. We didn’t really talk about things, and you just kind of didn’t talk, you just pretend like it didn’t happen.”

Fans will recall that during Season 7 of Vanderpump Rules, Jax once stated, “I have no mom.” In a confessional he noted, “I used to be very close to my mom. Everybody’s like, I love your mom. We really haven’t communicated in the last six months, pretty much since my father passed. Their marriage was on the rocks; she was talking about leaving my dad about a year before he got cancer. Toward the end, my mom would say, ‘Oh, he’s fine.’ We didn’t know he was in ICU; I would have been there in a heartbeat if I knew he was in ICU. I mean, I get it, my mother’s trying to protect my sister and I, but I should have been able to say goodbye to my dad.” Marie Cauchi also didn’t attend Jax’s wedding.

Jax Taylor should leave The Valley’s cast

Jax and Jenny continued their open dialogue. The Valley star stated, “I think I was a product of my environment. I think I have a lot of the same qualities as one of my parents. Like almost scary, actually. And I think I literally take after this person a lot.” Even though neither sibling revealed the family member, Jenny added that Jax showed signs of being a “narcissistic” child. Jax ended the conversation by touching on Brittany denying his claims that they only fought when he was high. He stated, “Listen, every couple has arguments. But I’m talking about self-destructive, screaming, yelling, going, coming, like being verbally abusive was from drugs and alcohol. That is 100 percent.”

While it is admirable that Jax has tried to stay sober and gone to rehab, the simple fact is that he should no longer be on the series. His manipulative behavior has drawn a clear line in the sand with viewers. And Bravo should not be entertaining this type of behavior.

The Valley is available to stream on Peacock and Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
