Geno Ploeger may not have won America’s Got Talent (he finished as runner-up behind Nene Royal), but the show has given him a whole new audience of fans, which will likely open him up to a world of new opportunities. In fact, the magician says he has a new possible career path after receiving feedback from viewers.
“I want to jump ahead to something. I’ve had a lot of people come up to me and tell me that I could maybe host something,” Ploeger tells TV Insider.
First and foremost, though, is finishing college at Arizona State University. “I’m a senior in the final stretch,” Ploeger reveals. “I graduate in December.” He’s a double major in acting and marketing.
Magic, of course, will always be at the forefront. Ploeger says he wants to perform magic “for as many people as I can,” and admits he hopes to someday get his own residency in Las Vegas.
Ploeger looks back fondly on his time in the talent competition, noting that he’s developed a close relationship with many of the other contestants over the last several weeks.
“Going into the competition, I thought everyone was going to be nose-down and focused,” he reveals. “But all of us, I think, have made friendships here that are going to last a lifetime, and that’s so important. Every single one of the finalists, and even [contestants from] before that, I genuinely will consider them friends for a long time.” He says that all of the acts “managed to have fun” on set, even though they were also working so hard to perfect their performances.
Ploeger was inspired to try out for America’s Got Talent after watching Mat Franco win the show in 2014. He and Franco then had the opportunity to perform a magic act together during night two of the Season 21 finale on September 23.
