Barry Can’t Swim goes full French touch on euphoric new single ‘Dance Dance Dance’

Barry Can’t Swim has gone full French touch on his euphoric new single ‘Dance Dance Dance’ – listen below.

The Edinburgh-born producer and DJ released the track today (July 24), marking his second single this year with Atlantic Records, after ‘Return To Bhibo’ arrived in May.

Inspired by the golden era of French touch, ‘Dance Dance Dance’ sees Barry – real name Joshua Mainnie – pair shimmering synths and buoyant electronic beats with a playful keytar solo and euphoric French-language vocals.

While ‘Return To Bhibo’ captured the producer’s emotionally charged, club-focused side, the new track finds him moving into more flamboyant and colourful territory.

Listen to ‘Dance Dance Dance’ below.

The single follows a busy run of activity in the US for Mainnie, including walking in KidSuper’s SS27 runway show in Miami and hosting a surprise pop-up party in Brooklyn.

He was also carried the official match ball onto the pitch ahead of Scotland’s World Cup game against Brazil in Miami last month, alongside Brazilian DJ Mochakk. The pair later played a back-to-back set at the city’s Club Space.

At the start of the year, Barry Can’t Swim announced his own ‘Late Night Tales’ compilation and shared the single ‘Chala (My Soul Is On A Loop)’ to accompany it.

The mix arrived in March as the first instalment in the long-running series for over five years, as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations. It included tracks from the likes of O’Flynn, Factory Floor, This Mortal Coil and Daniel Avery, alongside some of Mainnie’s own material.

Barry Can’t Swim released his second studio album ‘Loner’ last year, featuring the singles ‘Still Riding’, ‘The Person You’d Like To Be’, ‘Different’ and ‘Kimpton’.

It followed his Mercury Prize-nominated 2023 debut album ‘When Will We Land?’, and speaking about ‘Loner’ at the time, he said: “If my first album was a collage of all the music I loved and was inspired by growing up, then this album is the most authentic expression I could offer of myself and my life over the past year.”
