Blondshell captures complexities of growing up on stirring new single ‘Fur Elise’

Blondshell has shared the stirring single ‘Fur Elise’ – taken from her upcoming album ‘Violins’. Check it out below.

The Los Angeles artist – real name Sabrina Teitelbaum – will release her third studio album and follow-up to last year’s ‘If You Asked For A Picture’ on September 25 via Partisan Records.

She has already shared the single ‘Heart Has To Work So Hard’ and the towering title track, and now has dropped the eye-catching single ‘Fur Elise’ – the closing track from the LP.

Across the song, Blondshell blends her signature loud and quiet structures, and explores the complexities of growing up in the lyrics.

The title refers to the classical piano piece, with the song capturing the feeling of walking down the aisle and getting the feeling of being overwhelmed.

“You’re trying to figure out what you want your life to look like, and what you want playing at your wedding, but you don’t even know where to start. You’re picking the wrong song,” she shared.

The themes in the song align with that of the album as a whole, which tackles troubled friendships, religion, the body, and the efforts to heal.

“This record’s heavy in a way,” Teitelbaum said. “[The songwriting] has gotten a little bit less literal. There’s more imagery. But my main goal with this record was to have songs that hit hard. I wanted big lead lines.”

As for how the third album sees her more self-assured in her songwriting, she added: “I felt like I wasn’t walking in the dark anymore. I spend more time with Yves [Rothman, producer] than almost anybody – we just have such an efficient working relationship.”

Blondshell will also tour North America, the UK and Europe later this year, including her biggest London headline show to date at the Roundhouse on December 15. See the full list of dates here and find any remaining tickets here (UK) and here (North America).

In an interview with NME last year, Teitelbaum spoke about moving away from the searingly confessional tone of her debut on ‘If You Asked For A Picture’. “I think I feel pretty masculine as a person, and my relationship with gender has been somewhat complicated,” she said.
