Fox Business Correspondent Blasts Trump For New Mexico Renaming Stunt

What To Know

  • Fox Business correspondent Charles Gasparino criticized President Trump’s proposal to rename New Mexico as ‘New America.’
  • Gasparino called it a distraction from serious midterm election issues.
  • Trump’s recent renaming efforts include attempts to rename Lake Ontario and the Kennedy Center.

Fox Business correspondent Charles Gasparino has said President Donald Trump and the GOP need to get serious if they want to succeed in the upcoming midterms.

Gasparino, who regularly serves as a panelist on the Fox Business program segment The Cost of Freedom and the stocks news program Cashin’ In, made the comments after Trump’s latest threat to rename the state of New Mexico as “New America.”

After the president proposed the name change on Truth Social on Sunday night (September 6), Gasparino took to X, writing, “Someone tell the president renaming lakes and states won’t do it in November.”

“Unfortunately, attacking @hasanthehun every minute of every day probably won’t either,” he added, referring to the popular leftist Twitch streamer Hasan Piker.

Gasparino shared further thoughts on the rapidly approaching midterms, writing, “I know it’s a hard sell (the tariffs made it harder because the admin took its eye off prices still being elevated when it took over; endorsing weird candidates like Paxton is an issue as well; Iran is a net negative for now) but I don’t hear Team Trump emphasize enough the decent top line econ numbers and how that could get dramatically worse under the Dems.”

He concluded, “Also with Iran neutered the world will be a safer place–oil price WILL be coming down. Make the arguments before it’s too late.”

Trump has been on a renaming kick ever since returning to office in January 2025. This included signing an executive order to change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and adding his own name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

In May, a US District Court Judge ordered Trump’s name be removed from the Kennedy Center, ruling that it had been added unlawfully.

More recently, the president caused controversy by ordering Lake Ontario to be renamed Lake America amid his ongoing trade war with Canada. Last week, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed only 14 percent of U.S. citizens supported the name change, with 63 percent opposing it.
