Liam Neeson Action Movie With Vikings Star To Exit Netflix

Liam Neeson’s 2021 action film will be exiting Netflix’s content library later next month. Starring alongside the Vikings star, the film centers on a former U.S. Marine sniper-turned-rancher as he protects a young boy from Mexican cartels.

The Marksman leaves Netflix in May

Netflix will bid farewell to The Marksman on Thursday, May 14, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).

Robert Lorenz (American Sniper, Mystic River, and Letters from Iwo Jima) directed the film. He also co-wrote the script with Chris Charles and Danny Kravitz. The cast features Liam Neeson as Jim, Katheryn Winnick (known for playing Lagertha on Vikings) as Sarah, Teresa Ruiz as Rosa, and Jacob Perez as Miguel, among others.

The Marksman follows Jim, a former US Marine Corps Scout Sniper, as he lives with his dog on a ranch near the Arizona-Mexico border. After he encounters a woman named Rosa and her son, Miguel, sneaking into the country through the fence, he confronts them.

Their conversation is interrupted when Mexican cartels arrive and ask Jim to hand over the two. When he refuses, a shooting takes place, which ultimately kills Rosa. Thereafter, Jim continues to protect Miguel while trying to take him to his family in Chicago.

The film was originally titled The Minuteman (via Variety), but was later changed to The Marksman. Both Open Road Films and Briarcliff Entertainment handled the film’s distribution and released it in the United States on January 15, 2021.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the Tomatometer score sits at 37%, which is a stark contrast to its high 83% Popcornmeter. Despite a favorable audience reception, the film grossed roughly $23.9 million worldwide. It is close to its reported $23 million budget.

The four-time Emmy-winning Sean Callery composed the score for The Marksman. He is known for his work on popular series such as 24, Elementary, Bones, Star Trek: Generations, Homeland, and Jessica Jones.
