Michael C. Hall has more competition – and apparently an ego problem – in the new trailer for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, which premieres October 30 on Paramount+, with episodes rolling out weekly through December.
I thought serial killers went extinct, but apparently nobody told Dexter. Several of them are running around the same city, killing at the same time and keeping tabs on each other. This franchise refuses to let its main character die, and now he has to suffer through a midlife crisis while we suffer through another resurrection.
Joking aside, I loved the first season of Dexter. I haven’t watched anything after it, so I’m hardly qualified to pass judgment on where the story has gone. When a show is done, I generally consider it done. Revivals aren’t something I’m particularly interested in.
But they really have filled this thing with an eclectic, impressive cast. They’re dangling the carrot in front of me, and the idea of Dexter having a midlife crisis is pretty interesting. Especially when part of that crisis is jealousy over another serial killer getting more attention.
As Entertainment Weekly previously revealed, Dan Stevens (Abigail, The Guest) plays Lucas Stark, otherwise known as the Five Borough Killer, while Gabriel Luna (The Last of Us) plays the Sleep-Eyed Strangler.
Showrunner Clyde Phillips explained that Stark is killing across New York’s boroughs to terrorize the city. His immediate notoriety gets under Dexter’s skin: For all his secrecy, Dexter apparently still wants recognition for his work, and this newcomer has the city talking almost immediately.
That’s a pretty funny problem for a serial killer to have.
The ensemble also includes Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo), Nona Parker Johnson (Little America), and the returning Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones).
Returning cast members include Uma Thurman (Kill Bill) as Charley, Jack Alcott (The Good Lord Bird) as Harrison Morgan, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (The Lincoln Lawyer), Kadia Saraf (Law & Order: SVU), Dominic Fumusa (Nurse Jackie), James Remar (The Warriors), and Desmond Harrington (Wrong Turn), who has been promoted to series regular.
Harrison will also continue his own pursuit of justice, with Phillips returning as showrunner and executive producer.
I don’t know. It’s a pretty good trailer. If I had more time and there weren’t a million other things to watch, I might actually give this a try.
