Stephen Colbert Addresses Charlie Kirk’s Death on His Show

Stephen Colbert has something important to say regarding Charlie Kirk’s death. He started the recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert by paying his sincere condolences to Kirk’s bereaved family. Colbert then proceeded to share his own thoughts on the horrifying shooting of the late political commentator.

Stephen Colbert talks about Charlie Kirk’s death

The renowned talk show host opened the latest episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on a melancholic note, addressing the gravity surrounding Charlie Kirk’s shocking death.

At the beginning of the episode, Stephen Colbert expressed his condolences to Kirk’s loved ones and equated his death to the political violence he witnessed in the 1960s in America. Further, he added his own take on political violence and how it will not solve the ongoing issues within America. Colbert also hopes that this is the last of such brutality and not a sign of things to come.

“I hope it is obvious to everyone in America that political violence does not solve any of our political differences. Political violence only leads to more political violence, and I pray with all my heart that this is the abhorrent action of a madman and not a sign of things to come,” the veteran comedian spoke solemnly on his show.

For those unversed, Charles James Kirk, also known as Charlie Kirk, was an American political activist and conservative leader. On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, he was fatally shot while he was on stage at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Kirk was a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump. Ironically, he was discussing mass shootings at his “The American Comeback Tour” just before he was attacked by an assailant. The 31-year-old is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two children. The investigation surrounding Charlie Kirk’s tragic death is currently ongoing.

Meanwhile, popular talk show host Jimmy Kimmel also condemned the act of violence in an Instagram post. He emphasized the rampant political polarization and increasing acts of gun violence. Furthermore, Kimmel echoed Stephen Colbert’s sentiments of empathy and accountability.
