Michael B. Jordan Took Therapy After Black Panther Role

Michael B. Jordan has opened up about the emotional toll of portraying Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, revealing that he sought therapy after filming the Marvel blockbuster. The actor recently discussed the experience in an interview, explaining how deeply the role affected him and why he felt the need to prioritize his mental health afterward.

Michael B. Jordan took therapy after Killmonger role in Black Panther for this reason

Jordan played the film’s complex antagonist, Killmonger, a character driven by anger, loss, and unresolved trauma. While the role earned widespread acclaim and cemented Jordan as one of Hollywood’s most compelling actors, he admitted that stepping into such a dark emotional space came at a personal cost. According to Entertainment Weekly, Jordan shared that immersing himself in Killmonger’s mindset lingered beyond the set, making it difficult to fully separate himself from the character once filming wrapped.

In a candid reflection, Jordan explained that he intentionally leaned into the character’s pain and isolation to deliver an authentic performance. However, carrying that emotional weight for an extended period left him feeling drained. Recognizing the impact, he decided to seek therapy as a way to process the experience and recalibrate mentally before moving on to his next projects.

Jordan emphasised that the decision was not about regret but about responsibility to himself and his well-being. He described therapy as a tool that helped him unpack the emotions he had absorbed while playing Killmonger, allowing him to reset and approach future roles with clarity. The actor also noted that therapy became an important part of his growth, both professionally and personally.

The conversation highlights a broader shift in Hollywood, where more actors are openly discussing mental health and the psychological demands of intense roles. Jordan’s honesty adds to an ongoing dialogue about how performers protect themselves while delivering emotionally charged performances.

By sharing his experience, Michael B. Jordan underscored that seeking help is a strength, not a weakness. His reflections on Black Panther offer insight into the unseen side of acting and serve as a reminder that even the most successful roles can carry emotional consequences worth addressing.
