Emily Osment is known for her role as Mandy McAllister on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which is a spinoff of Young Sheldon. However, during her three seasons on the OG series, Emily admitted she was so “uncomfortable” that she made a unique request in order to get by. So, what was it that she asked for? Keep reading for more details.
Emily Osment Struggled On Young Sheldon
Young Sheldon was a spinoff/prequel of the highly successful The Big Bang Theory. It showcased Jim Parsons’ quirky but somehow lovable character, Sheldon Cooper, and how his upbringing shaped him. The series ran for seven seasons, but fans were not out of luck, as two fan-favorite characters landed their own spinoff. Montana Jordan played Sheldon’s older brother, George Cooper. He ended up with Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment), whose character is over a decade older than he is. They fall in love and have a baby, and in the final season of Young Sheldon, they tie the knot.

That paved the way for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which followed the couple as they navigated newlywed life. Now in its third season, Emily and Montana have a groove, but when she joined YS in Season 5, she struggled a lot. At the time, he was just eighteen, and in her mind, he was a kid. So, doing the kissing scenes and such was hard for Emily, who is 11 years older than her co-star. Therefore, she had a request for their producer, Tim Marx:
“That made me uncomfortable. He was a baby! A baby with a mullet. So I spoke to [producer] Tim Marx, and obviously they were not able to get one that late in the day, but for the next few episodes they had one there, since the relationship between them escalates. It made everything easier having one there. I think it’s something that’s really important.”
Emily Osment believed that her co-star should also have the same option given that he was so young. It helped ease so many nerves, and the show has admitted that they should have done this from the beginning. Production looked back at Emily and Montana’s first kiss, realizing how bad it looked. They see now that when the cast does not know one another, it is vital to make everyone feel comfortable.
Much Better Now
After working together for six seasons and on two shows, everything is so much better between Emily Osment and Montana Jordan. Alex Reid, director for Young Sheldon, had this to say about the duo at the start, before the intimacy coordinator was brought in:
“Obviously, they worked that out, and they have a great chemistry now, but that was kind of embarrassing.”
Some fans of the show felt that Emily was being dramatic, as Montana was 18. Moreover, their storyline was that George had lied about being older when he was only 17, so what was the issue? However, others respected and appreciated how she felt:
- Honestly valid though, the age gap bothering her is normal to feel icky about. Respect
- honestly insane that this had to be requested by the actors, production team very much so failed to perform their job and hire an intimacy coordinator from the start
