Big changes could be coming to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters…and I’m not just talking about new titans.
Variety reports that the series is in talks for a Season 3 renewal, but with a massive catch. The outlet states that, if approved, the show would be helmed by a new showrunner and new writers. And, yes, that means new titans from Legendary’s Monsterverse, as well.
However, it’s not confirmed whether that would mean a new cast of characters.
Despite my undying love of all things Godzilla, I don’t have Apple TV (I need to change that), so I, gasp, haven’t seen either season of Monarch. I can’t say if all these changes are a good idea or not. That said, the show seems to be popular with fans. Let’s hope Apple TV knows what they’re doing here.
Based on the Monsterverse from Legendary, the Apple TV series — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.
Season one of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings looking to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played byKurt RussellandWyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.
Season two picks up with the fate of Monarch – and the world – hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe – all with the threat of a titan event on the horizon.
The series also starsKiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe,Mari Yamamoto, Joe TippettandAnders Holm.
Chris Black, who created the series withMatt Fraction, currently serves as showrunner.
There’s also an untitled Monsterverse series starring Wyatt Russell in development. The series “follows the story of Colonel Lee Shaw (Russell), an American operative who, in 1984, went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.”
JD Dillard(Sweetheart) has been tapped to direct the pilot episode of the new series, withJoby Haroldshowrunning.
