2 Express Passes Used as Doug and Dylan Avoid Elimination

On Leg 6 of The Amazing Race Season 39, eight teams continued the race in Albania. There were two Express Passes left in play and this was the last leg of the race where they could be used.

The episode featured an Intersection twist, which meant that teams had to pair up at the Roadblock and complete the mission alongside another team. Michelle Rozalski and Matt Patterson had a one-hour head start after winning the last leg, but they chose to wait for Daisha Wilks and Dalton Hamby to make sure they reached the Roadblock together as quickly as possible, since they would’ve had to wait for them there anyway.

Scroll down for a full rundown of what happened next and for a recap of everything else that went down!

What was the Roadblock in Episode 6?

The Intersection Roadblock required one person from each pair to perform a centuries-old dance at a wedding celebration. Michelle and Daisha took on the task for their teams, and they completed the task before any of the other teams even arrived.

Ann-Marie Tejcek/Riley Tejcek, Ali Krieger/Joanna Lohman, Conner Wilson/Garrett McGuire, Doug Matter/Dylan Matter, and Anuar Tager/Andrea Tager Ballesca all arrived at the same time after getting lost. On the way, Andrea and Anuar pulled their car up alongside Conner and Garrett’s and agreed to work together, while the Boss Lady Alliance (BLA) of both all-female teams also agreed to team up.

That left Dylan and Doug stuck waiting for Javi Vintimilla and Erin Taylor to arrive so they had another team to complete the Intersection Roadblock with.

Joanna and Riley were second to complete the Roadblock, followed by Garrett and Andrea, who completed it on their fourth attempt. Dylan and Erin made up a lot of time by completing the Roadblock on their first try, but they were still the last to leave.

What was the Detour in Episode 6?

The Episode 6 Detour was “Heads or Tails.” The “Heads” task required the teams to create a traditional Albanian cap, while Tails was learning a verse of a poem in Albanian and English, then reciting both parts back from memory.

The teams that chose “Heads” were: Matt/Michelle, Ali/Joanna, Ann-Marie/Riley, and Doug/Dylan. The other teams (Daisha/Dalton, Andrea/Anuar, and Erin/Javi) chose “Tails.”
Doug and Dylan arrived at the “Heads” Detour when Ali/Joanna and Ann-Marie/Riley were getting their hats checked, but both female teams failed and had to start completely over, putting them back on level ground with Doug and Dylan, who were starting their first attempt.

Who used the Express Pass in Episode 6?

Both Express Passes that remained were used in Episode 6. Even though Matt and Michelle were far ahead of most of the other teams, they knew this was their last chance to use it, so they pulled it out at the “Heads” Detour to head straight to the Pit Stop.

Meanwhile, Conner and Garrett used their Express Pass at the “Tails” Detour to make up time after falling into the middle of the pack.

Who was eliminated in Episode 6?

There was no elimination in Episode 6! Doug and Dylan were the last team to the mat, but Phil Keoghan informed them they would live to race another day, as this was a non-elimination leg.

The teams arrived in the following order: Matt/Michelle (their third win in a row), Daisha/Dalton, Conner/Garrett, Anuar/Andrea, Erin/Javi, Ann-Marie/Riley, Ali/Joanna, and Doug/Dylan.

Because they finished in last, Doug and Dylan will have to face a penalty on the next leg. All of the teams took off to Sri Lanka at the same time and met up with Keoghan, who informed them they would be voting on a Double U-Turn. We’ll find out the results at the beginning of next week’s episode.

The Amazing Race, Season 39, Wednesdays, 9:30/8:30c, CBS
